Ocular Yoga is a natural method focused on the recovery of visual acuity and care of our eyes. It consists of a set of eye exercises and habits to relax and strengthen the eye muscles, become aware of our eyes, and re-educate them to keep our eyes healthy from a holistic perspective. ç
We must take into account that in general, we tend to demand too much from our eyes, exposing them, from the moment we wake up, to intense workdays in front of light screens or activities where we have to keep our eyes focused. Perhaps this is a good time to pay attention to them, know them, take care of them and attend to their needs, understanding that they are part of a body where prevention is nuclear for a correct vision and health of our eyes.
What is Ocular Yoga?
Ocular Yoga is based on the ancestral teachings of yoga and ayurveda, as well as on the method developed by the American ophthalmologist William H. Bates, known as the Bates method.
Dr. Bates, after multiple studies, recognized that most of the refractive problems: Presbyopia, Myopia, Hyperopia, and Astigmatism are reflections of a functional defect determined by the physical/ocular tension and our mental state, therefore his techniques are oriented towards the relief of the symptoms and the correction of the defects.
Ocular Yoga is based on 5 main ideas:
- Nutrition and purification: the eyes resist tension better if they are well nourished.
- Body and ocular tension: The eyes see badly because they are tense and are part of a tense body. General unblocking exercises are worked on
- Eye toning: The aim is to develop strong and elastic eye muscles
- Perfect accommodation of the eyes: The method applies exercises that facilitate the correct response of the eyes to any stimulus
- Discriminating sensitivity: Critical sensitivity will evaluate the immediate ocular response in any situation by paying more attention to the eye itself than to what the eye sees
Mensa Reig, expert and trainer in Ocular Yoga, will explain this method in detail and will show us in a practical way habits for a good health of our eyes, as well as, the exercises that this complete method proposes to us. Mensa discovered ocular yoga and visual recovery exercises a few years ago after a vision problem and since she has been practicing it, she has changed her life, going from 12 diopters to not requiring the use of glasses in her daily life.
What will we see during the Ocular Yoga course?
- Introduction to the method, Mensa's personal experience and anatomy of the eyeball.
- The second block is composed of cleansing and purification routines to keep your eyes nourished, lubricated and healthy (Splashing, Jala Neti, Nostril Excitation and eye bath).
- In the third block, we propose unblocking exercises based on yoga asanas (to relax the whole body) and specific asanas for our eyes, as well as other dynamics such as palming, blinking, distension and elephant dance.
-
In the fourth block we will deal with the toning of all the muscles that make up our eyeball and the focal dance Kim In the fourth block we will see the discriminative awareness through the 5 positions of the eye and gaze into the distance, as well as the stereoscopic sensation of space
- The fifth block is dedicated to healthy habits for your eyes: nutrition, proper reading, use of reticular glasses.
