Transhumance. Routes of a disappearing life

Description

Transhumance has its roots in the cowboys of the United States and the gauchos of Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil. While profit-oriented industrial livestock farming is based on the cruel exploitation of animals and resources, nomadic transhumance is a high nature value method of livestock farming, which not only contributes to a healthy environment, but also carries an incredible tangible heritage.Knowing that industrial livestock farming is one of the main causes of climate change, this sustainable form of animal husbandry is now more important than ever.Transhumance is the seasonal migration of nomadic cattle and sheep herders in search of greener pastures in summer and warmer weather conditions in winter. For more than a year we follow the Belenchón family as they drive their 3,200 animals on foot and horseback across Spain. We learn about a simple life, determined by the rhythm of their animals, and meet humble and caring people facing an uncertain and desperate future.
