Learn about the life and personality of Jesus of Nazareth from a historical perspective from the hand of Professor Antonio Piñero, one of the international experts on the figure of Jesus Christ. Antonio has dedicated his life to the study and research of his life through the texts and documents that refer to the historical figure with the greatest impact and relevance in the history of mankind, beyond interpretations, myths and legends.
Video by video, he will analyze, with the utmost rigor, his life, thought, historical context, socio-political keys, philosophy and traditions of the time, the people linked to his life... and he will even share his perspective on the lost years of Jesus from his childhood to his 30s.
The historicity of Jesus responds to a hypothetical reconstruction of the character through written sources such as the Gospels, the rest of the New Testament, the Gnostic Gospels or the reference of historians such as Flavius Josephus or Cornelius Tacitus.
In this Course of Myths and Truths about Jesus Christ is not intended at any time to question the Christian faith, it is simply a space for critical and scientific analysis of the sources mentioned above, where you will have the opportunity to approach the historicity of Jesus, that is, the information we have about him to discover who he was, how his life was, what he really intended and to what extent we can trust the veracity of the texts and documents that speak of him. We will provide answers to questions such as:
- Where and when was Jesus most likely born? Discover the true origin of Christmas.
- Did Jesus have siblings and did he ever marry?
- Was Jesus a healer?
- What was his relationship with Jewish nationalism?
- Did he try to form a new religion?
- What do we really know about Mary Magdalene and her relationship with Jesus?
- Did Jesus travel to India?
- What do we really know about Jesus' resurrection?
- Did Jesus speak of the coming end of the world?
- What do the apocryphal Gospels say about Jesus and why were they discarded
We will also address issues related to the political, economic, historical, cultural and social context of the time, to understand why his message was relatively well received by the people but ended up being condemned to death by the Roman governor of the Province of Judea, Pontius Pilate.
The course is composed of a documentary and dozens of short videos, which decipher important facets of the life of Jesus. The topics are treated in a very direct and deep way, so that the content is entertaining, without losing an iota of historical rigor.
You will discover a part of Jesus Christ that you probably do not know, the historical part. Antonio Piñero is Professor of Greek Philology at the Complutense University of Madrid, specialized in the language and literature of early Christianity and author of numerous works on Christianity and Judaism.
Antonio Piñero's words: "The figure of Jesus of Nazareth, as a profane historian, but very respectful of faith and beliefs, is sufficiently impressive to me to dedicate a whole life to him. What I would emphasize most about his person is his integrity; the clear purpose he has; how he is absolutely consistent with all his ideas; how he preaches ideas that have had an impact on the history of Humanity".
And who do you say that I am?
(Mk 8:27-30)
