In general lines, the disciples of Jesus are very likely to be literate people since they came from fishing companies in which it was necessary to do accounts or write notes but it is very possible that they were not very literate men. The real reason why the apostles did not write anything is because they were convinced that it was not worth it since they thought that there was very little left until the end of the world and, therefore, it was enough to convey the message orally.
