Live well, die well - Part 2

Description     More info

Now we are going to return to understanding to continue elaborating the fear of death. We are going to analyze how we understand death, from what concepts, ideas, presumptions we relate to that reality that we call death. This is fundamental, because many times we cannot properly understand a certain topic because the concepts we have are too narrow, too rigid and this prevents an authentic understanding of reality from arising that allows us to relate in an adequate way, balanced with that reality. And this is what happens with the subject of death, that the concept we have is narrow.

[Sound] [Sound] And now let's continue with the comprehension Let's analyze Since Concepts Presumptions Ideas We relate with that reality that we call death Here is the reflection I am going to make It is from the Buddhist point of view It's about each one also Well, go on analyzing the points that I'm going to That I am saying And I tried to do also as your own analysis Also and your own reflection And see if It connects or somehow resonates Well with these concepts I'm going to go Commenting And this analysis I have is important this analysis of What is death what ideas I have about death What preconceived ideas what concepts is important because many times We can't Adequately understand a subject because the concepts we have about that subject are Topics are too narrow too rigid And so that's how it is with the subject of death sometimes our concepts are so narrow That they don't allow us To really understand That That one done Or we are not allowed to relate in a more balanced way more More relaxed with that with that situation I'll give an example that can serve as a metaphor What is that of Buddhist cosmology in Buddhist cosmology It basically divides existence into three realms Each of these realms has some sub-kingdoms Which are states Or is it a Types of existence into which one can be reborn And there is a realm which is the realm of desire What There are some states there are some realms which are the infernal realms for example Which are situations of great suffering and pain And another is the realm of the hungry spirits They are called pretas And the hungry spirits and this is one of them

An existence in which there is always a A feeling of hunger and thirst That can never be satisfied And these and the hungry spirits never find satisfaction And why do these hungry spirits never find satisfaction by the conformation of their Body because they have Like very narrow, very narrow throats And the throat is like the orifice of a needle then They cannot receive Food and food It is said that they feed only on the smell of the food but That does not Completely satisfies And this then It has a metaphorical interpretation That sometimes Our Concepts are as so narrow we have so closed Like the throat or the mind so closed That somehow prevents us from digesting And then the work is like trying to enlarge How Open this lock And extend So to have an understanding Broader that will allow you to Relate to that With that reality In a more balanced way And of course, but when making this analysis we must take into account Which Our mind is a dualistic mind Sometimes only Understands and defines reality From two seemingly contradictory extremes Good bad White black Born to die Success failure Existence non-existence Not all cultures live reality Since as from that since that separation of dualism And then I'm going to analyze for example How do we define what is Being born Then Here we go Born Or the act of being born when something That was not Now it is Something that did not exist How it comes into existence And that something So we see how How it goes how it grows how it moves How it goes How it is aging Until he finds himself With the other end And then comes the dying And we call the dying The act by which Something That existed no longer exists Is no longer In fact when someone dies we say so and so has ceased to exist

Then we call Nacer To Moment when something comes into existence something something is Why we see it And dying is When something That we already see each other ceases to exist and then it is no more And what happens In this period between the birth and the death what happens With our body Which is changing we see like a baby's body From birth Is that in hours Change And a newborn baby at one month has changed And at 9 months different it's changing And what about our thoughts Our emotions Our priorities that change then too We could conclude That life Can exist It is a process Continuum of change And what happens After death We don't know that That's kind of out of our perception It's out of our concepts And as they exist then how phenomena exist as they exist The The people Buddhism explains what That all phenomena Eh are conditioned This means That it doesn't have as an independent existence by itself But dependent on causes and conditions All phenomena It's Depend on Causes and are in relation to something To causes contributing to that cause Because if If we are not aware of this It may seem that things like that They have an existence of their own and they kind of suddenly They appear They are for a while we see how that which appears in the existence as it grows moves Then Disappears And put As if by magic [Sound] Buddha in a in a teaching in one of his teachings in a vajra cutter sutra He was explaining how we should see reality he said It is to see reality as How One like a lightning like a shadow Like a dewdrop you contemplate and conditioned phenomena And nowadays for example part of the neurosciences That's very interesting I've accepted that only 5% of what we perceive is real 95% is real It is pure interpretation It is perception It is what we interpret Through the sense organs and what we perceive It's what they call sensoperception And now in the I'm going to share a metaphor also to explain this Which is very is very graphic I heard some buddhas talking a lot about also in some teachings of Buddha explained about how to see the phenomena in nature like dewdrops

Listening to a teaching on death to a zen buddhist master The metaphor of the dew drop What is a dewdrop? Well, a dewdrop is a phenomenon Alive we see In the mornings In the Appears Well, on the leaves and on the flowers, then these drops What we can see But At about 11:00:00 a

m

or so that is exhausted disappears And what has happened to him with that drop that is a dew drop A drop of dew It's Condensation of moisture in the ambient air What in a given Temperature conditions When there is a certain Humidity Also some wind conditions as that ambient humidity Condensation In that in that form In this phenomenon that we call dewdrop But I have when the sun rises Humidity decreases temperature increases Conditions change And that condensed drop In this form it begins to lose its shape And disappears And what happened to that drop that becomes Part of the ambient humidity Until the next morning When the right conditions are met and returns Appear The drop And so you do analyze Well, all the phenomena in nature And that one is drop The It's not that it disappears, it makes It remains part of that humidity And the next day Other drops appear Which are not the same drop But They are also part of So we see why it is difficult to establish the limits between existence and non-existence Because if we establish boundaries Then We can think What That things appear as if suddenly by spontaneous generation and suddenly disappear Also as if by magic, and this is a dualistic conception

And why is this analysis important because the way in which We live Our life And our death Depends On how we interpret it And that interpretation depends On the perception of what we perceive through Of the five senses of our sensory experience So What we see There is And we identify it with life And what we do not see Does not exist And we identify it with death And this For to be born to die to live to exist not to exist Reality not reality For they are really part of the language Language is of course important for communicating but we must have Very careful not to confuse Reality with language because language doesn't encompass and doesn't express The totality One of the objectives is for example of meditation is precisely is like Cut That illusory world Of concepts and words and having an experience Of the reality of reality as it is And this is why because of this dualism We are So conditioned also by being in this perception We are conditioned Y That's why we are terrified of death, because we identify it with nothingness and we do not And there is nothing that gives us more terror What to be nothing What to lose is identity This is me this character created There is another metaphor What talking about what it is to try to understand Reality With from our concepts and from our conceptual mind What is limited You are from the catholic tradition is very beautiful And it's about St

Augustine That the saint is St

Augustine is the one you see that He is like that he meditated a lot and he was always like very much trying to decipher he It's the mystery of the Holy Trinity So that's always why he was saying how is it possible that Three different people in one in one make up one single three different people Father son Holy Spirit in one In one true God and I was always analyzing how it was possible like this what does it mean How was this possible And one day I was walking on the beach And he was with his reflections on the mystery of the Most Holy Trinity And he saw a child who was And he had made a hole in the beach and in a shell he was taking water from the sea

And he put it in the hole And so over and over again he would go and get water and put it in the orifice That he had done And the saint was struck by this and asks the child what are you doing? What are you doing and the child says I'm trying to get all the sea in here in this hole here And the saint tells him but that is impossible How do you intend To put such a huge sea in such a tiny orifice And the child says Just like you That you try to understand with your finite mind The mystery of God which is infinite and the child disappeared In fact St

Augustine said that if it is understood God if one understood what God was Was not God Why God is beyond the concepts of our Our intellectual mind [Sound]
