We talked with José Carbajal, teacher authorized by Sharath Jois, current referent of Ashtanga Yoga and grandson of K. Pattabhi Jois, who developed and popularized this style of yoga and is considered one of the most influential figures in the practice of this ancient physical, mental and spiritual discipline. Ashtanga is a Sanskrit word that can be translated as the 8 steps or 8 branches, referring to the paths of yoga defined by Patanjali in the yoga sutras. In this interview we reflect on the most relevant aspects of Ashtanga Yoga, we will know the experience and perspective of José and why this discipline completely changed his life. A close and intimate encounter where we will delve into the philosophy of yoga, his teacher, tips for beginners, yoga as a powerful tool for self-discovery and thought control, taking into account that our thoughts are our source of pain and suffering. We will also talk about other aspects such as the perspective of death from the point of view of yoga philosophy. José is the founding director of Mysore House Madrid, one of the few centers authorized by Sharath Jois after many years of studies under his tutelage.
