This is an excerpt from one of the Ying Yang Yoga classes that we offer in the Conscious Television courses. Lorena González, the teacher, explains what this popular variant of yoga is all about and introduces you to its practice. Yin and Yang yoga comes from a Taoist perspective that in a field of consciousness there are always opposites and they are called yin and yang, but in a higher consciousness the opposites are united towards a single function which is called Tao. When we are ambitious and energetic, the life force flows through our muscles, the Yang layer of the body. This is the essence of a Yang attitude, it is the creative and renewing force. This is the masculine part, related to heat and movement. When we are peaceful and happy the life force flows through our skeleton, this is the Yin layer of the body, the feminine part symbolising water and earth. This Yin attitude is essential for tranquillity, calm and peace. We seek balance and cultivate the two layers with a practice mixing yin and yang yoga. Therein lies balance. In a yin yang flow practice, you will find two parts: a passive, introspective part and a dynamic, flowing part.
