Description
The enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD), formerly hemocuprein and erythrocuprein, catalyzes the dismutation of superoxide into oxygen and hydrogen peroxide. Because of this, it is an important antioxidant defense in most cells exposed to oxygen.
