Could Jesus Christ be married? Professor Antonio Piñero answers this question based on the Scriptures. In reality, Jesus could have been married but he could also be celibate or widowed. One of the ideals of the Jews in the 1st century was the prophet Jeremiah who was single, however, other prophets were married. We cannot know what the marital status of Jesus was. What does seem from the Gospel narrative is that, if Jesus was a widower or married, the years in which he dedicated himself to preaching the coming of the Kingdom of God was not accompanied by his wife. This is evident in Chapter 19 of Matthew in a famous phrase of Jesus in which he says that there are people who dispense with marriage for the love of the Kingdom of Heaven. Therefore, all three hypotheses could be true. Jesus could be married, widowed, or celibate.
