The question posed to Professor Antonio Piñero in the next session is whether Jesús de Nazaret could be a bigamist. It is a hypothesis that could be true since polygamy in the time of Jesus was completely legal. For example, we know that King Herod the Great had nine wives, all of whom were legal. However, bigamy was no longer common among ordinary people in 1st century Israel. In the Gospels we find no reference to whether or not Jesus was a bigamist. It is in the Apocryphal Gospels, writings of doubtful value, where it can be presumed that Jesus could have been a bigamist and be married to Salome and Mary Magdalene.
