Kriya Yoga: the mysterious yoga Kriya yoga is an ancient technique that remained hidden from the uninitiated and was taught in secret for many centuries. In 1861 it was revived when the great yogi Mahavatar Babaji transmitted the technique to his disciple Lahiri Mahasaya during a spiritual meeting in the Himalayas. To this day, kriya yoga has been passed down from generation to generation in a chain of unbroken spiritual succession.

What is kriya yoga?

Basically it consists of a system of levels of Pranayama (vital energy), based on techniques designed to rapidly accelerate spiritual development and generate a deep state of tranquility and communion with God.

How does it work?

It is said that kriya yoga is so effective because it directly affects the source of energetic growth, that is, the spiritual energy located at the base of our spines. All yoga techniques work with this energy but it is usually indirectly. Yoga postures, for example, can help to open the spinal channels and balance the energy in the spine. Yogic breathing exercises, on the other hand, can help to awaken that energy.

The kriya technique is much more direct and helps the yogi to control the life force with his or her mind, moving it up and down the spine with awareness and will.
