This chapter deals with the threefold classification of Śraddha̅ on the basis of the modes of nature or Gunas: Sattva (implying qualities of goodness, knowledge, purity), Rajas (passion, ambition, activity) and Tamas (ignorance, dullness, suffering). Śraddha̅ is usually translated as "faith", although the full Sanskrit meaning of the word refers to something else. Śraddha̅ is the attitude towards life (towards the body, towards people, food, charity, disciplines, wealth...), it is our understanding and structure of values and priorities in life.
