Pranayama is one of the 8 steps of Patanjali's Yoga Sutra and is just the step prior to Pratyahara (control of the senses) and Dhyana (meditation). Through breathing, we promote a state of mental stillness that facilitates a state more conducive to meditation or asana practice. We will give recommendations to promote the benefits of its practice and also comment on its contraindications.
